Renting in Hamilton: what we see

Hamilton has three big rental markets in one city: the lower city, the Mountain, and the suburbs that joined it.

Westdale, Ainslie Wood and the lower west end

Houses and duplexes near McMaster University and its hospitals, much of it inside the rental licensing area. Students, residents and hospital staff rent here, and demand peaks before September.

Downtown, Durand and the east end

Older houses, duplexes and apartments near the GO stations, the hospitals and the LRT line under construction along King Street. Applicants ask about parking, laundry and heating type.

The Mountain and the suburbs

Family houses with basement units on the Mountain, near Mohawk College, and in Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown and Binbrook. Tenants want schools, parking and the Linc or the Red Hill.
