Renting in Barrie: what we see
Barrie is a commuter city, a college town and a hospital town at once, on Kempenfelt Bay and Highway 400, and its rents moved against the Ontario trend this year.
Near Georgian College and RVH
Houses and basement units in the north end, close to Georgian College's Barrie campus and the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. Students, hospital staff and young families all rent here, and demand rises before September.
Allandale, downtown and the waterfront
Older houses, duplexes and condos near the lake and Allandale Waterfront GO on the Barrie line. Commuters to the GTA ask first about the train and the drive down the 400.
The south end: Painswick, Holly and Hewitt's Creek
Newer family houses and townhouses, many with registered basement units, near Barrie South GO. Some tenants work at Canadian Forces Base Borden, west of the city.
