- Fines, and a new licence after a saleFines reach $25,000 for a person and $50,000 for a corporation, doubled for repeat offences, and a new owner needs a new licence. - Short-term rentals: principal residence onlyShort-term accommodations, stays of 29 days or less, need a City licence and must be in the operator's principal residence, as a whole home or by the room. - Four homes on a lotSince October 2024, four units, including the main home, are allowed as of right where zoning permits a house, semi, townhouse, duplex or triplex: up to three additional units, no more than two of them in an accessory building, each with its own kitchen, washroom and entrance.Source: City of London, more housing options available in London neighbourhoods (October 7, 2024), checked October 18, 2026

Renting in London: what we see
London is Southwestern Ontario's biggest city, with a university, a large college and two hospital networks, so student, staff and family rentals all run side by side.
Near Western University
Houses and units around Western in the north end, rented by students and hospital staff. Most need the City's rental licence, and leases usually start in May or September.
Near Fanshawe College
Houses and townhouses in the east end around Fanshawe, rented by students and young workers. Licensing, bedroom sizes and parking come up early, and we plan around them.
Old South, Wortley Village and the west end
Older houses and duplexes downtown and in Old South, and family homes in Byron and Westmount, rented to professionals and families who want walkable streets or good schools.
