King Township rules to know before you rent

We don't have King reviews to show yet, so here are the Township's own rules, and where to check them.

  • Up to two added units, one detachedKing's countryside zoning by-law (2022-053) allows up to two additional residential units in zones that permit a detached house, with only one in a separate building. Renting in King Township: what we see

King is mostly countryside, farms and the Oak Ridges Moraine, around three small communities, and its rentals are mostly houses and estate homes.

King City

Houses near King City GO on the Barrie line and Seneca Polytechnic's King campus, with easy access to Highway 400. Tenants include commuters, college staff and families who want space near the city.

Nobleton and Schomberg

Village houses and newer subdivisions, close to Highway 400 and 27. Most tenants drive to work in Vaughan, Bolton or Toronto, so parking and a garage matter.

Estates, farms and the Holland Marsh

Large homes and farmhouses on wells and septic systems. We write water testing, heating fuel, long-driveway snow clearing, outbuildings and grounds care into the lease.

King Township questions

Can I add a unit to my King property?

In most zones that allow a detached house, up to two additional units, one of them detached. On the Oak Ridges Moraine it's one, inside the house. Each needs a building permit first.

Can I run a bed and breakfast and rent a second unit?

Not in the same house: King's zoning doesn't allow a bed and breakfast in a home that has an additional residential unit.

Do you rent estate homes and farmhouses?

Yes. We price them carefully, give applicants time to see the grounds, and make sure the lease covers the well, septic, heating fuel and outdoor work.
